Well so far, I’ve got to say that 60 feels pretty damn good. Amazing, in fact. In my last post I wrote about Waking Up and I’m 60! so I wanted to share some photos from the birthday party on Saturday night.

You know it’s been a great party when everyone tells you it was one of the most fun parties they’ve been to in a long time. And the really beautiful thing about getting older is that the importance of an age number just drops away. Saturday night we had people there ranging from age 28 to almost 75. Lesson: Parties are a lot of fun when you have a variety of people, just add wine and the dancing will prove it!

The biggest birthday balloon I have ever seen! It’s still hanging out in my kitchen, it won’t deflate! I might still have it on my next birthday.
Here’s some other things I learned about throwing a big party:
- For a large crowd, if you want to use plastic plates and plastic utensils that you can throw away, no one will mind if you serve enough wine.
- Just when you think you have enough wine, add 12 more bottles.
- Have more food than you think you will need. You gotta have something to absorb all that wine.
- Nothing will get people out on the dance floor like music from the 80s. Guaranteed. Lots of smiles and laughter also guaranteed to follow.
- Make sure someone else is assigned to get some great photos, because you’ll be too busy dancing and drinking wine.
- If you need more room, just decorate your garage. Pin up some burlap to cover up your gardening tools, add a few lamps and chairs, and a large table. To hold all the wine, of course.
- When the bar is in the garage, no one will care that they are in the garage.
- There is nothing more fun than having your adult children at your own birthday party.
- When it’s 2 a.m. and you can’t stand up on your aching feet any more, you just have to make people go home.

My kids set up a “photo booth” with props, and it makes people want to get their pictures taken instead of shying away from the camera. And my dear friend Louanne came all the way from Tennessee to join the party! (Photo by Craig)

Another tip for a successful party? Make a few easy appetizers and have the rest catered for less work, less stress. Okay, not like that’s any big secret, it just helps explain this photo, ha ha. (Photo by Morgan)

Dancing in the garage, a good alternative to a dance floor inside your house because you don’t have to move any furniture! (Photo by Morgan)

It’s very important to learn to dance while keeping the wine in your glass level.

Party hats? I don’t remember any party hats. That’s probably because of the extra 12 bottles of wine. (Photos by Morgan)
Above all, it’s the laughter and the smiles that I remember the most. And it’s always fun to include a little magic.

Such a delightful evening! Many thanks to Stacy, Morgan, Sean, and Oliver and all the rest who put a lot of effort into creating such a fun party where everyone could relax, let loose, and celebrate Suzette’s big birthday.
SO happy you were there! Loved seeing you dancing.
A perfect evening to celebrate your birthday! Happy 60th!!!
Thank you Corey! The birthday party was a blast. And there is something about turning 60 that is amazing…it is very liberating, and makes me look forward to the coming years more than ever before. Hope it will be the same for you in February!
That was one fantastic party! Such a great way to start your sensational sixties with wonderful friends and many great memories. Still can’t believe how the garage was transformed into one heck of a party room!!
Yes it was! We definitely have to start a garage party movement. A few bottles of wine and a few lamps can transform any room! Thanks once again!
It was a great party! Everything was just right. And the company was wonderful! Once again, happy birthday, Suzette! 💛
Thank you Wanda! So happy you were part of the celebration!
