This quote reminds me of a multitude of beautiful and thought-provoking paintings and sculptures I’ve had the pleasure to see and experience over the years.
Some days we need art in our lives more than others. Even if there is no dust to wash away, art can be the needed balm, the light dusting of a perfume.

The Birth Of Venus. Oil on Canvas, 1879. Photo taken at the Musee d’Orsay, Paris, France in September 2011.
“The Birth of Venus is one of the most famous paintings by 19th-century French painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825 – 1905). It depicts not the actual birth of Venus from the sea, but her transportation in a shell as a fully mature woman from the sea to Paphos in Cyprus. She is considered the epitome of the Classical Greek and Roman ideal of the female form and beauty, on par with Venus de Milo. For Bouguereau, it is considered a tour de force. The canvas stands at just over 9 feet, 10” high, and 7 feet, 2” wide.”

Picasso sums up the beauty and emotional value of art very well. I love the concept of “bathing in art.” It’s what I feel like when I take time to enjoy the works I’ve collected in my home. Thanks for sharing such a masterpiece from the Louvre.
Thanks Amy! And having seen the beautiful art collection and how you arrange it in your home, I can certainly agree. Art is truly a balm for the soul.
I have been watching the series on Civilizations and one of the episodes was about myth and legend in art and especially religious art. So the beauty of this transcends both.
Such a great comparison, Martha! Yes, the Netflix series Civilizations is a fabulous way to understand and explore the history and influence of cultures in art around the world. Thanks for letting Chez Suzette readers know about it!
