Ahhhh, Fall…my favorite time of the year. Just when I think I can’t bear the heat of summer any longer, there is that marvelous change that occurs and there’s a slight nip in the air, a change in the way the wind feels. Just enough to make you dream of cozying up under a blanket, wearing sweaters and boots by the fire and dishing up a cassoulet hot from the oven. I’ve been in France for two weeks so I haven’t pulled out the pumpkins or planted fall flowers yet, but the preparations were underway in Paris and Provence so I thought I’d share some scenes with you.

The last of the tomato crops were at the weekly markets. I love the colors of these — and you know they would be so beautiful sliced!

Gorgeous aubergines (eggplants) in so many sizes and colors!

Carrots of many colors just begging to be roasted

Radishes so sweet, and only one euro for the whole bunch!

This fella was hard at work on his decorations at Le Petit Palais Saturday market in Provence.

Note the butternut squash halves for hands

And when you’ve finished your shopping at the market, come on over to the “bowling alley” and try your luck at rolling a tiny pumpkin to knock down the butternut squash “pins.” Market entertainment at its best.

Gotta love a farmer’s creativity!

Fall fashions in the street markets in Aix-en-Provence

Little chocolate pumpkins and bigger ones in the window of a patisserie

And what everyone needs, a big chocolate chapeau (hat), to share with everyone on Halloween. Of course you couldn’t eat that whole thing by yourself!
Your beautiful photos and commentary brought back nostalgic memories of my trips to France. How I miss being there! Thanks for sharing experiences from your wonderful trip.
Thanks…Time to start planning your next trip!
I would absolutely LOVE seeing that market. The greenery at the top growing on that building is stunning. Thank you for sharing.
There are so many different markets I want to show you…you will love all of them!

Thanks Martha! Each visit I see something new and find more to love. A few weeks are just not enough!
