Characters on the Streets and at the Brocante

November 1, 2017 · Leave a Comment

I hope you saw some interesting, maybe scary, costumes or characters last night for Halloween.  And I hope they were children, but depending upon where you were they certainly could have been adults.  Especially in the U.S. where adults LOVE to dress up for Halloween.  I was thinking of going as a Playboy Bunny this year, but then I decided that I would scare far too many people and that I just shouldn’t risk it.  Maybe next year.

This colorful lady was waiting in line for the Dior exhibition in Paris. Made me wonder if she was paying homage to a designer or if this is an example of her everyday wardrobe. You have to admit she stood out in a crowd.

One of the best things about traveling for me is to see how people in other countries live, work, eat, dress or have fun.  What you’ll see on the streets of Paris is quite often a chic contrast to what you’ll find many hours south in Provence where life is more rural or agricultural.

I love this happy fella, and he was very proud of his lavender sachets.

At the brocante in Carpentras, I was trailing this couple for a bit. I think they were speaking German, but I was too distracted by the leather shorts. You gotta give a guy credit for wearing them with his high-top Converse and white socks.

Visiting the brocantes and marche de puces, or flea markets, you’ll find lots of interesting people both as the sellers and those like me who are on the hunt for treasures.  And just like spotting an intriguing treasure in the bottom of a dusty box, you just never know what, or whom, you will find.

This interesting character was in a painting at the Petit Palais in Paris. Upon closer inspection you’ll understand why I decided not to dress as a Playboy Bunny for Halloween.

And in case you were wondering, Elvis is alive and well at the consignment shop in Aix-en-Provence. Tammy Faye Bakker was with him, trying to spot a treasure on the shelves and convince Elvis that they must take it home.

Here’s to never knowing what you’ll find when you travel down an unexpected road!
