Have you ever had one of those days or weekends where you just wanted to hibernate and burrow deep down into your nest?
It was a tough week and the weekend brought a welcome respite, but still the cold temperatures lingered outside, followed by a dreary, rainy Sunday which didn’t help my mood.
Times like those make me turn to all the comforting things with which I can surround myself. A warm, fuzzy blanket and a blazing fire. Lighted candles, a good book, a glass of wine. Soft, soothing music. Comfort food which is not necessarily good for me.

Looking down at the blanket across my lap I realized that it made a really beautiful landscape.
I was browsing the latest copy of France magazine, and that of course makes me start dreaming of all the places I want to go. Plotting a new itinerary always makes me feel better, and having a trip on the calendar is comforting because I know I’ll soon be doing one of the things I love most — traveling and exploring the world.
Nighttime view of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It’s been the background wallpaper on my phone for over six years, and my daughter teases me about not ever changing it. But I find it comforting. A massive triumphal arch that’s been standing tall and proud for almost 200 years. It’s not going anywhere, it will be there the next time I visit and it will be just as impressive.
How about you? What do you turn to when you need some comfort? And here’s wishing you a wonderful week to come.
A bientot
Love the mountains, love the beach, love browsing art museums, love a good book. Our crazy weather drives me to sweaters and afgans. Can’t wait for spring! I so enjoy your blog! It’s always so pleasant and uplifting! 💛
Wine, chocolate and opening my heart to dear friends to talk through the angst. Also I just started yoga. I never ever ever ever thought it would be something that I would enjoy, but I’m blown away as to how it has changed my mental and physical perception to life – I am hooked.
You and everyone else I know — okay, you’ve convinced me about establishing a regular yoga practice. And meditation. I couldn’t agree more, now I just have to figure out how to keep the “real world/life/work” from interfering with something that is so important to my life and health! Thank you, Dave, for your perspective.
What a beautiful expression of your feelings. Love the photos too. In addition to all the comforts you mentioned, I find that being in the mountains really lifts my spirits. Fresh, cool air and majestic scenery put any worries into perspective for me. I feel any heaviness in my mood lighten considerably even as I’m driving up to North Georgia from Atlanta and the flat landscape gives way to mountainous terrain. Also, I plan to subscribe to France magazine thanks to your mention of it. ; )
Ahhhhh…yes. The mountains will do it for me every time. Thank you for the reminder! I long for that beautiful, long range view escape. Soon.
Lovely pictures; always enjoy your musings!
Thanks Nancy….next time, more uplifting. Promise.
